From the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront situated outside your hotel,one can board a boat which takes you on a tour to Seal and Robben Islands. For nearly 400 years Robben Island situated 12 km from Cape Town, was considered a place of banishment,
exile,isolation and imprisonment.It was here that rulers sent those regarded as political trouble makers,social outcasts and the unwanted of society.During the Apartheid years Robben Island became internationally known for its institutional brutality. The duty of those who ran the island and its prison was to isolate opponents of apartheid and to crush their morales.Some freedom fighters spent more than a quarter of a century in prison for their beleifs.Those imprisoned on the Island succeeded on a psychological level in turning a prison "hell hole" into a symbol of freedom and personal liberation. Robben Island came to symbolise, not only for South Africa and the African continent, but also for the entire world, the triumph of the human spirit over enormous hardship and adversity.
Seal Island is home to 50 000 Cape fur seals. Seal Island boasts the most extreeme predation from Great white sharks, known locally as "Air Jaws" these monster predators eject their two ton frames from the deep waters and into the air while grasping their prey !

Hermanus.

From mid-July through to November Southern Right whales migrate to the bay to give birth and nurse their young. Witness various breaching rituals and view these 40 ton creatures literally a stone throws away while strolling along the protected reserve cliff tops, Dolphin and seal sightings are also very common.
Hermanus regarded as the principal centre of the perlemoen industry.The Perlemoen derives its South African name from the corruption of the Dutch perlemoer,meaning mother-of-pearl, from the beautiful interior of its shell.It is known Internationally as Abalone or Venus Ear.
Several of the countries top wine estates will please the wine connoisseur. Various acclaimed wines are being produced in the Hemmel-en-Arde valley and wine lovers can sample some of them by following the Hemanus wine route.
The Fernkloof Nature reserve,part of the Cape floral kingdom, smallest but richest in the world,in the fyn-bos covered mountains that form the backdrop to the town, offers walks and hikes with splendid views of the mountain and sea. Roridula Gorgonias the largest carnivorous plant in the world grows on the doorstep of the Fernkloof nature reserve.Quaint Boutiques markets and shops.There are numerous art and craft studios and galleries mostly managed by the artists themselves.For the more adventurous, board a boat in search of great white sharks and then hop into a cage and view these remarkable predators in their natural inviornment.
